Say Hello to Peter - the newest @motodev community member
Hello everybody!
I'm Peter van der Linden - the newest member of the MOTODEV team.
I recently joined Motorola Mobility in the role of Android
Technology Evangelist. It's early days yet, but I can tell you I
wear a big grin all day long, as I get to engage with the latest
Motorola products and Android software. If you're thinking "Hmmm,
that last name sounds familiar", it might be that you're a fan of the
1970's Dutch rock band Focus - their drummer had
the same name as me, and when I lived in London, England, I used to get
his calls occasionally. That led to confusing situations
for both of us, and it may be why Focus never entered the Eurovision song contest
(Abba were in it two or three times!) Or maybe you've read one of the
computer books I've written? Possibly "Just Java" or "Expert C
Programming," or one of the others.
Up to now, I've always worked in software development in an engineering
team. My previous position was with a software start-up developing
Android apps, and I bring my developer perspective to the MOTODEV
community. The job of a Technology Evangelist is largely about
successful communication - outbound communication to software developers
about new tools and techniques, and inbound communication to Motorola's
product teams to keep them well informed about what developers need.
And that's where you come in! One of my hobbies is collecting code idioms - examples that represent baffling bugs, or clever coding, or tuning tips, or anything in between. I've been collecting these kind of examples for years. I do it instead of going to sports events, opera, or Eurovision song contests (which, when you think about it, is kind of like a sports event combined with opera). If you have come across any interesting code anecdotes in your Android development work, please send them to me (only things that can be freely shared for the benefit of everyone, of course). I will put the best examples on display for the education and inspiration of the MOTODEV community at large. You can email me via the MOTODEV community by clicking here (Note: a MOTODEV account is required). I look forward to hearing from you, and also meeting many of you at future developer events.
Cheers,
Peter
